British Foreign Secretary Liz Truss believes that Western countries should not demand that Ukraine make peace with Russia, since it is highly undesirable for the former to make territorial concessions. She made this statement in an interview with Die Welt.
The diplomat emphasized that only Kyiv can make the main decisions on how the hostilities should end. “And we must support them, and not seek peace on terms that would mean the surrender of territories [to Russia]. We must make sure that Russia is pushed out of Ukraine, and we must make sure that Russian aggression does not happen again”, Truss said.
A similar opinion was expressed by CNN interlocutors from the administration of US President Joe Biden. Although the White House doubts Ukraine’s ability to return all the territories reclaimed by Russia, Washington in any case will not insist that Kyiv cede any territories for the sake of a peace agreement.
