The project for the construction of the Hanhikivi-1 NPP in Finland with the participation of Russia has been closed. This is reported by the publication Kauppalehti.
It is noted that this will affect the goals of Helsinki to achieve carbon neutrality. The nuclear power plant was supposed to influence the growth of electricity consumption and reduce emissions.
According to the publication, 40 percent of the energy was planned to be produced at nuclear power plants. In this scenario, Finland could achieve carbon neutrality by 2035. However, in May, the project with the participation of Rosatom was closed. The nuclear power plant was planned to be built in Pyhäjoki, Finland.

Earlier, Russia stopped the export of electricity and gas to Finland. Since May 14, the Russian subsidiary of Inter RAO, RAO Nordic Oy, has suspended electricity supplies to Finland “due to difficulties in accepting payments.” In addition, the Scandinavian country refused to pay for gas from Russia under the new scheme and did not pay for gas delivered in April on May 20. After that, Russia stopped the transit.
